Prithviraj Chauhan, is that one name from Indian history, whose mere mention is enough to leave you with goosebumps. When a film was announced on him it was obvious to get excited as his life itself was no less than any grand movie. And finally after a long wait the trailer for one of the most highly anticipated films of the year “Prithviraj” is out.
If I’m being honest, after watching the trailer my excitement has surely gone down. And the major reason for that is Akshay Kumar who’ll be seen portraying the role of Samrat Prithviraj. I feel that he has failed to do justice to the character and it is every ounce visible. Just like the teaser there’s not a single scene in the trailer where his performance gives you the feels. Be it his dialogue delivery or body language none of it looks like that of a King.
But as I write the trailer talk, there’s still a hope inside my heart for the movie and the only reason for that would be director Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi who has earlier given us historical shows like “Chanakya”, which proved to be one of the best shows ever produced in India.
The trailer opens with a voiceover saying, “Uttaradhikari rishte se nahi yogyata se chuna jata hai. Shaurya ke liye, virta ke liye aur nyay ke liye” and we get the glimpse of Prithviraj Chauhan amidst the chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ as he’s being crowned the ruler of Delhi.
Then there’s former Miss World Manushi Chillar who’s making her debut in the bollywood as Princess Sanyogita, the daughter of Kanauj’s King and pillar of strength of Samrat’s life. Being impressed by his valour and bravery she falls in love with him and goes against her father. The trailer also gives us glimpses of the innocent love between the two.
As the trailer moves ahead, we see Sonu Sood as Chand Vardai, Prithviraj Chauhan’s childhood friend who proudly calls himself Prithvi Chandra Bhatt. There’s also Sanjay Dutt as Kaka Kanha, Prithviraj’s blind uncle and biggest loyalist. The two of them were literally the best part of the trailer and it was quite evident that they have given ample time and worked on their characters which was missing in Akshay’s part.
Through the second half of the trailer we see Sultan Muhammad Ghori preparing for war to capture Delhi and in response how Prithviraj Chauhan fought against this merciless invader with utmost bravery. Manav Vij will be seen portraying the role and sadly he too fails to leave any terror in our hearts as a villian is supposed to. You think of Ranveer Singh as Khilji from “Padmavat” and it sends chills down the spine. That’s exactly how it should be done! The film also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Lalit Tiwari, Ashutosh Rana in prominent roles. With the cast as grand as this, it wouldn’t be right to comment on their performances just by the trailer.
“Apni zindagi ke badle main Sultan ko apne watan ki mutthi bhar mitti bhi na doon”, says Akshay Kumar by the end of the trailer which sums up the emotions that are attached to the film and I only hope the movie is able to do justice to it in every way possible.
Produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films, the film is written and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who calls it his dream project. The soundtrack is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with lyrics penned by Varun Grover.
“Prithviraj” which was scheduled to release earlier this year in January but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic is finally releasing in theaters across India on 3rd June, 2022 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
