Getting right into the holiday spirit, this week our readers decided to go a little towards the fun side of holidays by voting for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, or more appreciatively callee ZNMD.
ZNMD isn’t a film, it’s a feeling of sorts. It is a one of it’s kind film that caters to every audience that watches it. You don’t have to be as rich as them or as lively as them to relate to them, you just have to be human.
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, this film stars a variety of niche actors such as Farhan Akhtar, Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin. It revolves around a road trip that 3 men, school friends in the past who have grown distant due to their career paths, take up in Europe. This road trip starts out as a Bachelor trip for Kabir (Abhay Deol) nut turns into a life changing trip for all 3 of them, the other two being Imran (Farhan Akhtar) and Arjun (Hrithik Roshan).
On the trip, each of them decide to choose an activity that the latter two have to participate in. A surprise activity that they find out only after reaching the destination.
Kabir chooses scuba diving, something Arjun is pretty afraid of but does it anyway. Partly because it liberates him and partly because the scuba instructor is Laila (Katrina Kaif) and he finds himself in a love at first sight sort of situation. Arjun then chooses skydiving which bothers Imran, but then again, the trip was meant to change their lives so they do it anyway.
Imran at the end, chooses the most dangerous activity out of all of them. Running with the bulls, a chance at facing death right in its face.
Before leading up to this moment, the three of them go through a mixture of emotions and life changing events which make them realise that they aren’t strong enough to face the truth, with the bull activity, it comes upon them to choose their truths or choose death.
ZNMD is the kind of film to make you laugh, cry, fall in love and hopeful for and with your own life. It teaches you the problems of every single human regardless of their backgrounds, how each one of us have problems to face but how it comes down upon us to fight them.
This is a movie that is brilliant in every sense, from it’s direction to it’s costumes to it’s music and it’s cinematography. It is just a wonderful road trip that you take through with the main characters.
Here’s to the holiday spirit, here’s to life-changing vacations and to life!
