“Double XL” is a Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi starrer that takes up the body shaming concerns as the prime subject. In the era of shifting perceptions around the idea of a woman’s dreams and identity, the trailer of the film looks like an exemplary depiction. Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra are their parallel main characters.

The movie is directed by Satramm Ramani and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vipul D Shah, Rajesh Bahl & Ashwin Varde, Saqib Saleem, Huma Qureshi & Mudassar Aziz.

Let’s say it has been very fittingly voiced-over that the world will always find some problem, either in you or in your dreams. ‘Duniya ko na ya toh sapne se size se aitraaz hota hai ya dekhne vale ke size se.’ But what sets you apart is your power of standing out and believing in yourself.

The trailer begins with Huma Qureshi aka Rajshri’s dream of being asked out by Shikhar Dhawan (also marking his cameo) but just then her mother wakes her up to a disturbing reality. Rajashri wants to shift to Delhi and be a sports presenter. Her dreams are perfectly designed and planned by her and yet her body doesn’t seem to match them for the people she comes across. All she gets to hear is ‘Thodi si zyada hi healthy lag rahi hain.’

On the other hand, Sonakshi Sinha is a growing fashion designer whose partner cheats on her for another girl who by society’s definition is ‘fit and skinny.’ While we see that she handles the situation with sass, we wait to uncover more about how her character deals with such rejection.

The trailer makes you look forward to a lot of quirky dialogues, overcoming societal notions, and some empowering moments for our women. This film is also another delightful portrayal of female friendships and how uplifting one another is all it takes.

“Double XL” releases in theatres near you on 4th November 2022.
