A long awaited trailer of a longer awaited movie is finally out. Gehraiyaan is the third film by Shakun Batra –a writer, director whose work in movies like Kapoor and Sons made me fall in love with his art. Gehraiyaan is a dark romance built on the concept of infidelity and the dynamics of modern relationships. The story majorly revolves around two couples and the mishaps among them. Alisha (Deepika Padukone) and Karan’s (Dhairya Karwa) relationship is already mundane and muddled before it is challenged by Zain, played by Siddhant Chaturvedi which in-turn creates chaos between him and his fiancé, Tia (Ananya Panay)
The trailer is majorly coloured in the palette of aquamarine shades of blue, green and gray. There are hints of pastel and soft shades. Light is brilliantly captured and makes the frame at least a fold better. The story seems exclusively dark, interesting, new and perhaps beautiful. The trailer ends with a dialogue that says, ‘are we just messed up people?’ and it talks volumes with me as an audience.
The characters are serious, full of adulthood and reality. All throughout the trailer there’s a stillness in the tangibility while the concept is chaotic and disorderly. All the four actors have an edge to them. After his supporting roles in 83 and Uri, we are highly excited to see Dhairya perhaps in a bigger role. The supporting cast of Gehraiyaan as shown in the trailer include the very talented, Rajat Kapoor and the extraordinary Naseeruddin Shah. It is definitely a cast we look forward to watching create a project together.
The topic is extremely crucial in today’s world with the modernisation of relationships and the distancing of families and people. The subject matter chosen by Shakun Batra behind the film is rather daunting but it has some real potential in the world of cinema. There is hope taking into consideration that the topic of infidelity is served to its audience with care, precision and meaning.
The Upcoming Movie, Gehraiyaan, is going to release on 11th February 2022 on Amazon Prime Video.
