Vidyut Jammwal’s new film casts him differently as compared to his earlier works. His previous filmography includes Commando (2013), Baadshaho (2017), Junglee (2019), Khuda Haafiz (2020) and the latest Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2 (2022). All these movies had less acting scope for the actor but more action. The trailer of the Commando star’s latest film “IB 71” is out on YouTube. While the possibility of a few action scenes shouldn’t be ruled out, the trailer plants the expectations of a simmering, spy-thriller.

“IB 71” is a film “based on true events” of one of the missions during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971. Vidyut plays an IB agent “Dev”, who is on a top-secret mission to save the nation from the attack from the neighboring country. The two-minute trailer showcases Jammwal coming up with a seemingly impossible plan of blocking the air space to foil the presumed attack by Pakistan. Dev (Vidyut) has 30 agents and 10 days to complete this single mission. Although the film has themes that have been seen frequently of late, what stands out is the convincing production and set design with colors that give the suspenseful, cloudy tinge as events build up and time runs out. Other than Jammwal, the film also casts Anupam Kher and Vishal Jethwa in prominent roles.

The film is directed by National Award winner Sankalp Reddy, who previously made his directorial debut with Ghazi (a telugu film in 2017). Ghazi was based on the events of the Indo-Pakistan war in 1971 which won the 65th National Award.

“IB 71” is Vidyut’s first film as producer and is scheduled to release on 12th May 2023.
