After wowing audiences in Mardaani, Rani Mukerji is back as Shivani Shivaji Roy. The trailer for Mardaani 2 dropped a few hours ago, and the badass IPS officer who proved to the world that being a woman only makes her a more determined cop is trying to solve another crime against women, this time in Kota. After busting a human trafficking ring in Mardaani, Rani Mukerji’s Shivani Roy is on a hunt for a serial rapist this time.
The trailer opens with a shocking statistic- More than 2000 rape crimes are committed by boys under 18 years of age, and these are just the ones that are reported. The main villain in the trailer seems like a young boy, barely in his early 20s, who brutally rapes, tortures and murders young girls. The remains of the girls’ bodies are sure to make your stomach churn as they do of a policewoman in the trailer.
Clearly, Mardaani 2 and YRF have not shied away from showing the gruesome murders and details of the rape victims. TIn one scene, the victim is shown hanging from iron chains and wearing a mask with Rani’s face on it, thereby by taunting and challenging Shivani, to come face-to-face with him. The villain here isn’t just committing the crimes; he is also employing psychological manipulation to deter the cop from doing her job. Evidently, from the trailer, it seems like this is going to be an intriguing and engaging watch.
Written and directed by Gopi Puthran, who was also the writer for the first film, Mardaani has a villain straight out of a James Patterson novel. The story, visuals, action, and production value definitely have taken a notch up since the last outing. The film also stars Shruti Bapna, Vikram Singh Chauhan and Rajesh Sharma. Rumours are rife that the antagonist is played by television actor Vishal Jethwa.
Produced by Yash Raj Films, Mardaani 2 will hit theatres on December 13, 2019. It will set up a box-office clash with Jumanji: The Next Level.
