The trailer opens with Kartik Aaryan, running towards you, in slow-motion, with his hair set back and in a free-flowing shirt. I describe this because it’s important to convey the style and launguage of ‘Shehzada’, which refers to the film and Kartik’s character as well. For ‘Shehzada’ is expected to be a blockbuster that boasts of magnified, stylish, emotional and paisa-wasool moments that revolve around the rightful hero.

The film is the Hindi adaptation of the much loved Telugu blockbuster Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, which starred the magnetic Allu Arjun in the lead role. Here, Kartik plays the lead. Well conveyed by every inch and second of the trailer, the film is meant to be a mass-entertainer so as to draw them back to the cinema halls. This also adds a new chapter to Kartik’s career where he attempts to do everything that’s expected from your essential Bollywood hero, i.e., display action moves, dance and sway to peppy numbers, deliver punchlines and punches and finally woo the audience with larger-than-life heroics.

The story is a simple one, probably a seen-before-one, where Kartik’s character discovers he’s actually the son of a multi-millionaire (Ronit Roy) and not a regular working-class man (Paresh Rawal). And then follows his climb to attain back his rightful status and place, that of a Shehzada. You can spot a SS Rajamouli reference and a nudge to the ever-trending nepotism debate too in the trailer.

Directed by Rohit Dhawan, ‘Shehzada’ is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Allu Arvind and Aman Gill. It also stars Kriti Sanon, Manisha Koirala and Sachin Khedekar. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on 10th of February.
