Legendary director Ramesh Sippy, who directed timeless classics such Sholay, Andaaz, and so on, have finally decided to make a comeback with his rom-com “Shimla Mirchi”, starring Rajkumar Rao, the ethereal Hema Malini and Rakul Preet.

The film spent a few years stashed in some storeroom due to still unknown reasons. But now, Ramesh Sippy has decided to end this nearly 2 decades long hiatus from the film industry with this quirky comedy. The trailer shows us glimpses of the beautiful and picturesque Shimla, hence the eponymous title. The story is of a socially awkward Guy played by Rajkumar Rao, and nothing as such is seen to be particularly striking or remarkable, even. But there’s a catch – a hamartia to be precise. He can’t confess the depths of his feelings to the girl he so earnestly wants. Now, since tĂŞte-Ă -tĂŞte meetings are not our protagonists forte, he resorts to the power of the written word. Now, this tried and tested method by which lovers have carried out their affairs from Shakespearean times, have failed our protagonist.

For his rather beautiful words claim the heart of another, that is, his lover’s mother. Hema Malini has all but lost any hope of finding love in this world, but her beauty is still something to behold. Either way, this misguided lady struck by the cupid’s arrow has now fallen for him. This mix up of events makes for a rather funny portrayal of events, as Hema Malini carries the character with finesse and poise.

Shimla Mirchi will hit theatres near you on January 3rd, 2020.
