The Matrix Resurrections, a reboot of the Matrix trilogy that ended in 2003, seems to be exactly what the fans have been waiting for since. While the trailer gives almost nothing away, it still leaves you spellbound.

Neil Patrick Harris plays the role of a therapist to Neo (Keanu Reeves) or Thomas as Neil’s character refers to him as. When Neo describes his life-like dreams to him & asks him if he is crazy, Neil replies “we don’t use that word here.” On the other hand, Neo and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) bump into each other but as strangers who are unable to recognise one another or remember the adventures that they have had together.

‘One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small’ is the lyric of the song that plays as we see Neo take a blue pill that helps him stay in his “reality” but things seem to be shifting. The contrast between the blue and red pill remains consistent throughout the trailer.

With parallels drawn with the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland, the trailer makes one excited at the purported similarities between a science fiction movie and the book by Lewis Carroll. From Jada Pinkett-Smith as Niobe to appearances by Lambert Wilson, Daniel Bernhardt & Priyanka Chopra Jonas among others, the cast seems extremely exciting.

The trailer not only reminds one of the ‘cool factor’ that has long been associated with the Matrix universe but also promises much more in terms of imagination, the interplay between multiple dimensions & of course the answers to where it all began! Matrix Resurrection, directed by Lana Wachowski, will be released in theatres and on HBO Max on 22nd December 2021.
