“Here in India there are only two kind of people, those with big bellies and those with small bellies”
The White Tiger is an adaptation of the award-winning book by Aravind Adiga. The teaser of the film is intriguing and leaves you wanting for more. So much more that you’d think it is a series. The film introduces Adarsh Gourav who appears to have everything under his control. His screen presence and dialogue delivery stand out.
The film is about a poor driver, Balram, who believes he is meant to serve the upper class until he realises that his true passion lies in climbing the social ladder and becoming a part of the upper class which gets served. He serves his masters, portrayed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Rajkumar Rao who have returned to India. The cast has amazing actors in the lead and it is going to be exciting to see what they can bring to the table as a team.
The screenplay is gripping from the looks of the trailer with some impeccable shots. The trailer is like a movie in itself with a first and second half, the pace keeps one hooked till the very end of the trailer. Another recommendable element is the natural English accent which is rarely seen in adaptations of Netflix.
“I’m just one who has woken up while the rest of you are still sleeping”
With some impactful one liners, the trailer makes way for a lot of anticipation. Those who have read the book might have a better insight and understanding.
Written for the screen and directed by Ramin Bahrani, The White Tiger releases this December on Netflix.
