Thithi (Funeral) is a Kannada comedy drama film co-written and directed by Raam Reddy. The film actually consists of a cast of non-professional actors from villages in Mandya district of Karnataka.
It is a story on the reaction of three generations of sons to the death of the oldest man in their tribe- a man named Century Gowda- a highly curmudgeonly 101-year-old man. The three different stories of the three generations merge at Century Gowda’s ‘thithi’- the final funeral celebration, 11 days after his death.
Nude, 2018 (Directed by: Ravi Jadhav)
Nude is a Marathi movie directed by Ravi Jadhav and produced by Ravi Jadhav and Zee Studio.The movie was released on 27 April 2018. The film tells the story of a lady who poses nude to earn money. Her husband has abandoned her and all she dreams of is to give her son the best education possible. Set in the city of Mumbai, the film is filled with emotions and determination and a dilemma of what is right and what is wrong in the given circumstances.
The trailer itself proves to be beautiful in terms of cinematography. A lot of controversy surrounded the title and the content of the film but it was received by the critics and audience in a positive manner.
Sigappu Rojakal, 1978 (Directed by: P. Bharathi Raja)
Sigappu Rojakkal translates to ‘Red Roses’ in English. It is a 1978 Tamil-psychological thriller film starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in lead roles.
The plot has Dileep- a successful industrialist who runs a company named “Minerva Exports & Imports”. He has a dark side. He preys on women, has sex with them and kills them. These proceedings are video-recorded and watched by his adoptive father and mentor, who is also a woman-hater. The victims are buried in Dileep’s garden and a red rosebush is grown above.
The film is loosely based on Hitchcock’s movie (Psycho).
Shankhachil, 2016 (Directed by: Goutam Ghose)
“Shankhachil” translates to ‘boundless’ in English.The film is a India-Bangladesh joint venture and a historical drama.
The story revolves around the blaring effects of the 1947 partition and its consequences even today at the borders. This comes to light when the daughter of a school teacher who resided near the border of modern day Bangladesh, falls ill and is in need of medical attention. It puts us to think why helpless people living in the border areas be allowed medical facilities in the neighboring country on a humane ground.
Shankhachil was well received by critics and also won the Best Feature Film in Bengali award at 63rd National Film Awards.
Ship of Theseus, 2013 (Directed by: Anand Gandhi)
Ship of Theseus is a Indian drama film that explores stories of an experimental photographer, an ailing monk and a stockbroker. It has a plot that is very much “out of the box”.
The title of the film suggests a Theseus’ paradox, most notably recorded in “Life of Theseus”.
The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and also won the award for the Best Feature Film of the year at the 61st National Film Awards.

Soodhu Kavum translates to ‘Gambling Will Befall’ in English. It is a Tamil black comedy crime film, making it one among a small lot. The film was released on 1 May and the main idea of it is about how silly talk has become such a requirement in people’s day-to-day life.The story is based on a kidnapping gone wrong. It is a wonderfully spun tale and was selected for screening in the Zurich Film Festival. It was the only Tamil film of 2013 to be screened there.

There are four languages spoken in the film: Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and English.
Narayan Kamble is a teacher, social activist and protest singer. The plot revolves around him being arrested on the charge of inciting Vasudev Pawar, a manhole worker to allegedly commit suicide after being influenced by one of Kamble’s protest songs. Kamble denies any intention to provoke someone to commit suicide.
This film was India’s official submission to the Oscars. The movie focuses on the aspects of corruption and injustice in a subtle yet very effective and impactful manner.
Tik tik tik, 2018 (Directed by: Shakti Sounder Rajan)
The film is inspired by Armageddon, directed by Michael Bay. Tik Tik Tik is a Tamil science fiction thriller film.
The plot revolves around the ISRO that recruits Vasu, an escape artist, and his team for a mission to stop the catastrophe expected to be caused by an asteroid advancing towards Earth.
The film offers a new experience to the Tamil audience. The inclusion of comedy dialogues and scenes even in the serious shots is an excellent way of lightening the tense mood of the movie.
Visaranai, 2015 (Directed by: Vetrimaaran)
The film was adapted from the novel-Lock up, written by M. Chandrakumar, an auto rickshaw driver in Coimbatore.
Visaranai is a Tamil crime thriller film written and directed by Vetrimaaran. It deals with police brutality, corruption, and loss of innocence as major themes.
The film was released in India on 5 February 2016 and received high critical acclaim and positive reviews from audience.
Post this release, many issues arose among the police force in Tamil Nadu regarding the film.

Guru is a Malayalam fantasy film written by C. G. Rajendra Babu.The movie has multiple layers of meaning and can be peeled to obtain different inferences.
It tells us that the human plight is a result of the ignorance of the true nature of things. It shows us the existence of an alternate world of reality. Guru himself is regarded as a symbol who imparts high levels of knowledge. Later on, he plots to bomb a monastery where the survivors of a riot take refuge.

It was released on 13 October 2017 in MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival.The plot revolves around the friendship of a restaurant worker boy, Baalu and a mentally-ill, village man- Prasanna. Baalu finds himself in a dilemma to choose between his dreams and morality because of this meeting. The movie stars Swanand Kirke- the award winning lyricist as Prasanna.
Labour Of Love (Asha Jaoar Majhe), 2015 (Directed by: Aditya Vikram Sengupta)
Running 84 minutes long, the film actually has NO dialogues at all- which sounds insane! But despite that, the film has won numerous international awards and proves to be an amazing creation. The plot revolves around the daily life of a man and woman, and just how prosaic their routine is. They don’t even get to see each other all day because their work timings are different. The film actually depicts the bitter truth and reality of the lives of a lot of people in our country and of how, if determined, they can actually be together despite even spending any time with each other.
Chauthi Koot, 2015 (Directed by: Gurvinder Singh)
The film plot consists of two different stories set in a post-Operation Blue Star Punjab in the 1980s. The first story is about a rule in Punjab that prohibited family-owned dogs from barking. The second is about two Hindu friends travelling to Amritsar in a nearly empty train. The film merges the two plots when one of the friend travelling in the train recounts the first story.
It is based on the short stories The Fourth Direction and I Am Feeling Fine Now from Indian author Waryam Singh Sandhu’s 2005 collection Chauthi Koot.
The film was premiered at Debussy Theatre in Cannes to a full house where it reportedly received a ten minute standing ovation!

The stories includes a family on vacation who lose their son, A truck driver’s last ride and A girl chasing hope. The movie involves great acts of compassion shown to strangers.
The film won the award for Best Gujarati film at the 60th National Film Awards. It is told in a hyperlink format, where the stories are linked with the center of the action being a highway in the rural lands of Gujarat near a town in Kutch. The film is the first Gujarati film ever selected to represent India at the Oscars.
Ventilator, 2016 (Directed by: Rajesh Mapuskar)
Ventilator is Marathi comedy-drama film which tells the story of the Kamerkar family, whose eldest and most beloved member goes into a coma and is put on a medical ventilator. This happens a few days before the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and the family hopes not to be struck by grief amidst celebrations.
Made on a budget of just ₹3.5 crores, the film was a commercial success when it had a total earning of ₹25 crores at the box office and became one of the highest grossing Marathi films ever made.
