June is here already and believe it or not, half the year is over. Hadn’t we all celebrated the New Year’s just a while back?
Time is legit flying and we, at The Red Sparrow, to catch up with its pace, are here to give you a list of the most-awaited Hindi films that we can all look forward to before we realize that oh, it’s 2020 already.
Bharat
Starring Salman Khan a.k.a. bhai and madam sir Katrina Kaif, Bharat is the first big film that June will bestow upon us with. And while the trailer promised a lot of action and chemistry from the leads, and the soundtrack has given us a song as beautiful as Chashni, why we think the film would do well is because it is based on the Korean drama Ode To My Father – a film full of strong content. If the script development is even half as good as the original, we have a winner here, friends.

Kabir Singh
Oye hoye, the trailer! Shahid Kapoor looks in top-notch form as he takes over Vijay Deverakonda’s Arjun Reddy, seemingly giving Kabir Singh’s angst, pain and obsession an all new avatar. Director Sandeep Vanga, the director of the original as well as the remake, looks to have made sure the Hindi version remains authentic in terms of the film’s appeal. This one looks like a sure-shot hit.

Article 15
For those who haven’t seen the trailer – you must see it! And for those who don’t know, Article 15 of the Constitution of India cites the prohibition of discrimination against any citizen on the basis of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. This investigative drama gives a peek into the heartbreaking and shockingly cold prejudices still practiced in the name of casteism. You do know something good, something relevant is coming when a poster says, “Farq bahut kar liya, ab farq laayenge”. We say march on!

Mental Hai Kya
This film has been receiving a lot of flak for its triggering title as well as its tagline that says – “sanity is overrated”. While the criticism is completely on point and there is no hiding from the fact that both tend to trivialize the importance of mental health, what still sort of has my attention – and I do hope they salvage the otherwise extreme ignorance of the makers so far – are two things: the lead actors, Rajkumar Rao and Kangana Ranaut, two solid actors, and the writer of the black comedy, Kanika Dhillon, of the refreshing Manmarziyaan fame.

Dream Girl
Now I don’t know much about this film other than the fact that it stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Nushrat Bharucha but what is extremely appealing are details that we do know. For example, the film’s announcement – where Ayushmann declares his next film where he will be in and as Dream Girl. The first poster had him donning a saree, and if the buzz is to be believed, this one has him essaying the role of guy who plays Sita in Ram Leelas. Hooked already? Well, so are we.

The Zoya Factor
What happens when Zoya, played by Sonam Kapoor, an advertising agent, becomes the lucky charm of the Indian cricket team as well as the captain of the team (Dulquer Salmaan)? The Zoya Factor is your answer! Now how many of you can’t get enough of Dulquer Salman? That too in the official adaptation of the bestseller of the same name? The trailer isn’t out yet, but for those who have read the book, they do know that this fun story has full potential to hit it out of the park.

The Sky Is Pink
Now this film, on paper, looks fantastic. Starring Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim, The Sky Is Pink is based on the family, life and times of the 19-year-old Aisha Chaudhary, an Indian author and motivational speaker, diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis – a serious condition that causes the hardening of the lungs. Directed by National award-winning filmmaker Shonali Bose of Amu fame, this one is touted to be an emotional roller coaster.

Saand Ki Aankh
The premise looks epic, and so does the first poster. The feisty duo of Tapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar essay the real-life characters of sharpshooters Chandro Kumar and her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar. Both these women, nicknamed Shooter Dadi and Revolver Dadi respectively, started shooting in their 60s, and despite all odds and trolls, won several state and national level championships. If that isn’t strong enough content fully worthy of an adaptation, we don’t know what is.

Bala
Looks like it’s going to be yet another year of Ayushmann Khurrana. Known for his unique choice of films, you can expect this one to be yet another film lover’s delight. Bala, directed by Amar Kaushik – who had made his directorial debut with the brilliant Stree last year – is about a man dealing with premature balding. What more? The film brings back the hit jodi of Ayushmann and Bhumi Pednekar after hits like Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Shubh Mangal Savdhan. Need we say more?

Dabangg 3
The plot isn’t known yet. But what is known is that Salman Khan will be back with histrionics of Chulbul Pandey along with Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha) and Makkhi (Arbaaz Khan), and that too with something completely new. Oh, and seemingly with a special appearance by Shah Rukh Khan, too. If the buzz around the film is anything to be believed, the latest version of the Dabangg series, helmed by Prabhu Deva, is going to take a completely new turn and won’t exactly be taking off from where the previous film was left. If the success of the previous two editions are anything to go by, bhai fans will come flocking to the theatres come Christmas.
