Brace yourselves! The Dharma films season is upon us. While the trailer of Kalank looks promising, Dharma has released the trailer of another film. This is a film that didn’t really require a sequel. We are talking about Student Of The Year. The trailer opens with Samir Soni announcing the competition titled quite ironically ‘The Dignity Cup’.

The 3-minute long trailer has Tiger Shroff flexing his muscles and mouthing filmy and cocky dialogues. He is jumping off buildings and talking about heroism so one can’t be sure if this is a sequel to Student Of The Year or the third outing of Baaghi.

Tara Sutaria is introduced as the pretty and ditzy girl, read Betty Cooper, who wants to win the dance competition and Ananya Panday plays the girl who isn’t afraid to speak her mind and is pretty bold, read Veronica Lodge. The trio are involved in a love triangle, which is the basic plot for any Karan Johar film, even if it is a mystery thriller.

As in every Dharma teen/coming of age/high school film we see hundreds of people dancing on a college campus and if you are wondering how is this an educational institute, just remember that this film is from the same production house that gave us Student of the Year. Student Of The Year was marked as the debut vehicle of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra, all of whom are A-listers now and have big budget films in their kitty. Tiger Shroff is already on his way of becoming the next action-superstar, but it has to be noted how much screen time is given to Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria, as this film seems to be an out and out Tiger Shroff film. The trailer will remind you a lot of the Netflix show Riverdale, and how can we forget Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar as this film is too based on a sports competition. Aditya Seal, better known as the young kid from the film ‘Ek Chotisi Love Story‘, plays Tiger’s arch nemesis in the film. Since he sports a bulky and beefed up look now, we expect a lot of fist fights and action sequences in this film. And yes there is another retro track which has been reprised in SOTY 2. This time it is ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani‘ which seems to be a hit with the honchos at Dharma. All in all expect, romance, action and sports in the second outing of Student Of The Year, sans studies. But we can give it a miss, since this film releases during the holiday season.

Releasing on May 10, the film is directed by Punit Malhotra who has earlier helmed Gori Tere Pyar Mein and I Hate Luv Storys. The film is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar & Apoorva Mehta.
