The second teaser trailer for “Barbie” is not plot-heavy but it’s enough to give you a sugar rush from the candy colored world of Barbie Land.

If you’ve come across the released posters, by now you know that Margot Robbie isn’t the only Barbie, although she is the leading one, and Ryan Gosling isn’t the only Ken, although he is the leading one. There’s president Barbie (Issa Rae), journalist Barbie (Ritu Arya), physicist Barbie (Emma Mackey), and gymnast Barbie (Kate McKinnon), among other Barbies. And then there are multiple Kens played by the likes of Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

To start it off, it sets the tone to a sweet note as every Barbie greets each other with a “Hi Barbie” but tension simmers between Gosling’s Ken and Liu’s. It’s all different shades of pink and bright, popping colors. Everything seems perfect in Barbie Land. Maybe a little too perfect to be true. And this has Barbie (Robbie) going through a full-on existential crisis. The teaser hints at Barbie growing skeptical of the ‘reality’ of Barbie Land, which transforms into her and Ken getting out and heading to the “Real Word”, as a sign board clearly reads.

In addition to the existential ennui, the teaser is hilarious. From the beef between two Kens to Gosling’s Ken never going anywhere without his rollerblades, it’s all there. And a beach-off is on the horizon as the Kens get ready to take each other on.

The ensemble cast also includes Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, America Ferrera, John Cena, Dua Lipa, Alexandra Shipp, Ariana Greenblatt, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Anna Cruz Kanye, Conor Swindell, Jamie Demetriou, and Marisa Abela.

“Barbie” is directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written with husband and filmmaker, Noah Baumbach. Releasing on the same day as Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”, the film hits theatres July 21.
