Right off the bat, it’s everything you expect from an Indiana Jones film. The new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is seeped in the colors you’ve grown up watching, that of dust yellow and khaki beige. Simply put, it’s nostalgia; thrill; adrenaline; excitement; and craze all packed into one.

Indy (Harrison Ford) isn’t as young as he used to be. The trailer opens with him slouching on a chair, taking a ride on the subway and coming to the office, only to announce his retirement. He soon runs into Helena Shaw, his goddaughter, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. As they both drink to Indy’s retirement decision and get to talking, Helena mentions an artifact, a dial, Indy found on a train back when he was on a mission, that could change the course of history. Indy warns Helena not to go after the very thing that drove her father crazy.

Pitted against Indy, is Nazi Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) who exclaims, “Hitler made mistakes. And with this I will correct them all.” One should always expect a worthy villain when played by Mads Mikkelsen who’s been part of franchises like James Bond and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The trailer also gives us a glimpse into the de-aging technology that has been used to shoot a few sequences where Ford is to look like a 40 years old Indiana . This particular Dial of Destiny is supposedly a time travel device, so we might be taking a ride back to our favourite adventures of Indy.

Although Steven Spielberg is producing the film, in the director’s chair we have James Mangold, whose last outing was Ford v Ferrari.

Indy rides a horse through the streets of New York and its subway and does a freefall from an airplane with its engines on fire. As he recaps himself, he’s been tortured with Voodoo, shot at 9 times, seen things in his life. But it’s on this adventure he finds what he’s been looking for all his life.

As Sallah exclaims, “Give ’em hell, Indiana Jones!”, Indy returns for a final triumph. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiers at Cannes Film Festival on May 18, before a nationwide release on June 30th.
