With Netflix thriving on anthologies in the recent times, Navarasa is the newest and a rather ingenious feather on its cap. The much awaited trailer for Navarasa is out now and in just under 2 minutes it gets us excited by showing us glimpses of the who’s who of the Tamil film industry! While the trailer has no room for spoilers or hints into the plots of the short films, the fast paced introduction to each film builds up the suspense.

Navarasa (Nava- nine and Rasa- emotions), a charity project, parades nine stories based on nine human emotions under the banner of Mani Ratnam’s production house – Madras Talkies – along with Jayendra Panchapakesan. These two directors turned producers conceptualised the idea for this anthology and got on board veteran directors & actors who agreed to work for free. All the proceeds from this anthology will be donated to the members of the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The trailer opens with Kamal (Suriya) delivering a dialogue about how he fell in love with Nethra (Prayaga Martin) the minute he saw her and then the ride begins. The trailer takes us through a plethora of emotions such as love, hate, vengeance, anger, fear, happiness, laughter and so on while showing us the various backdrops that the films are based in. From love stories to tackling social issues to a possible Sri Lankan Tamil conflict, the plots of the short films revolve around serving us with a rollercoaster of sentiments.

With a beautiful soundtrack by Govind Vasantha in the background, we are just bubbling with incessant anticipation. Bejoy Nambiar, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Karthik Subbaraj, Karthick Naren, K.V. Anand, Ponram, Rathindran Prasad and Halitha Shameem are the prominent directors in this anthology. We are promised Arwind Swamy’s directorial debut through one of the short films as well. Eminent actors like Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swami, Siddharth, Prakash Raj, Saravanan, Alagam Perumal, Revathy, Nithya Menen, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Aishwarya Rajessh among others star in the films.

With music composed by big names like A.R. Rahman, D Imman and Ghibran, Navarasa releases on Netflix on 6th August.
