Dutch soccer coach Thomas Rongen, played by Michael Fassbender is offered two choices at a pivotal point in his career. One is to get fired, or he can take up a job in American Samoa and coach their soccer team. That doesn’t sound all too difficult of a choice right? But it is.

Taika Waititi’s next directorial, Next Goal Wins, is a straight-out riot of laughter. It’s based on the true story of the American Samoa soccer team, about their infamous FIFA 31-0 loss to Australia in 2001, following which, how a coach saw something in them that others didn’t. As one would presume, Fassbender isn’t going to have an easy time bringing up this team to the international competing standards but the audiences can rest assured of having a chuckle or two at their expense. Built as an underdog story who are to beat the odds stacked all against them, the film comprises of a variety of characters.

In hilarious Taika Waititi fashion, the trailer spells out the director’s losses – “Loser of The Best Picture Academy Award for JoJo Rabbit” & “Loser of The Teen Choice Award for Thor: Ragnarok”.

Set to ABBA’s “Take a Chance on Me,” the cast also includes Will Arnett, Elisabeth Moss, David Fane, Beulah Koale Oscar Kightley and Lehi Falepapalangi. Next Goal Wins releases in theatres November 17.
